October 2014

Hi everyone,
Well it couldn’t be wetter outside today so a good day for staying at my desk and writing. I’m working on a new book at the moment and the annoying thing is that my unconscious mind comes up with lines and scenes just as I’m falling asleep. It’s good in one way though because it means that part of my brain is on the case. I’m a great believer in the part the unconscious has to play in writing a book, I just wish it would deliver the lines in the morning or afternoon, not in the middle of the night! I always keep a note pad by my bed and a pen ready to write it all down. Writing is such a process, good weeks, bad weeks. Last week was a bad week and I felt I’d lost my way so I went for a couple of walks, took some time off from it apart from making some notes and this week, ping, I can see the way forward again. All part of the process.
I also wanted to mention a new book that is now on amazon. All my life, I’ve had cats and have always wanted to write about them so here it is at last. I wrote it a while back and am delighted that now it is available as an ebook: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cat-Whiskerer-Cathy-Hopkins-ebook/dp/B00OA4U5E8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413278125&sr=8-1&keywords=Cat+Whiskerer
This is the blurb about it: Tom is a Cat Whiskerer, a title inherited as the seventh son of a seventh son. Most cats use their whiskers to feel the width of gaps and openings, a Cat Whiskerer uses his whiskers to sense where there’s a cat in trouble or in need. Some say that Cat Whiskerers are the guardian angels or super heroes of the cat world. Others don’t believe they exist.
Four cats in Creswell village are about to find out for themselves. There’s Clifford, an old cat nobody wants and who longs for a home, Oscar, a shy kitten who is bullied by his owner, Molly who wants to escape from a cruel breeder who mistreats her cats and Maisie whose sense of adventure takes her into the dangerous territory. Only one cat can help them and luckily, Tom is near and watching.
I have an outline all worked out for a follow up book too, Cat in the City, and may write that next year if there’s time.
Talking of cats, our Otis hasn’t been too well. We had to leave him at the pet hospital for 3 nights which was awful. He has only ever been away from home once and that was when we moved to Bath and had to leave him in a cattery overnight. He was shaking and traumatized when we went to pick him up so neither Steve, my husband or I wanted to leave him in the hospital because you can’t explain to a cat that it’s not forever and it’s to make him better. Anyway, he’s home now and spent the first 24 hours clamped to Steve’s cheek, purring his head off. Hopefully he’ll be OK now.
Anyway, time to look at my note pad by the bed and put the ideas from the middle of last night into my story,
Stay dry!
Bye for now
Cathy
